Consensus Commission Meeting Calls for Electoral Reform and Investigation Body
On Monday evening, a meeting of the Consensus Commission was held at the state guest house Jamuna, presided over by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. During the meeting, commission members briefed the Chief Adviser on the latest progress of dialogues with political parties.
According to a press release from the Chief Adviser’s press wing, Yunus emphasized raising public awareness to encourage voter participation and ensure a safe election. The idea of forming an independent commission to investigate irregularities in past elections was also discussed.
Commission Vice President Professor Ali Riaz stated that all major political parties have already agreed on these issues. Member Ayub Miah called for the immediate formation of a Public Administration Reform Commission, citing outdated structures in government agencies.
Other members, including representatives of the Judiciary Reform Commission and Anti-Corruption Reform Commission, stressed the need for transparency in judicial appointments and implementation of reform roadmaps in sectors like media, labor, and health.
This meeting reflects a united effort to establish a transparent and secure electoral environment in Bangladesh.
